13-year NHL veteran departs Maple Leafs, signs three-year deal in Sweden
Calle Jarnkrok is heading home. The Toronto Maple Leafs winger has officially signed with Brynas IF of the SHL after 13 NHL seasons.
Calle Jarnkrok is finally going home.
After 13 seasons grinding it out in the NHL, the Swedish forward has officially signed with Brynas IF of the SHL, closing the book on a North American career that started all the way back in 2013.
The move has been rumored for months, and honestly it made sense the moment his name started popping up in trade and free agency chatter last winter.
Jarnkrok spent his junior years and the early part of his career with Brynas before Nashville gave him his NHL shot, and he'd go on to log time with the Predators, Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames and most recently the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Reporter Chris Johnston confirmed the news on X, and it's already spreading fast across hockey circles.
A career built on reliability
Jarnkrok was never the flashiest name in a lineup, but he was the kind of two way forward every coach wants in the room.
He chipped in offensively when needed, killed penalties, and never shied away from tough matchups against bigger, more skilled opponents.
Four seasons in Toronto brought their share of ups and downs, including injuries that limited his impact the last couple years, but he's still leaving the league with well over 300 career points and a reputation as a true professional.
What it means for Brynas
For Brynas, this is a massive story.
Getting a legitimate NHL veteran back in the fold gives the club instant credibility and a boost heading into the new SHL season.
Jarnkrok isn't walking into a rebuild either, he's stepping into a leadership role with the organization that raised him as a player and shaped his game from the very beginning.
At 34, this feels like the right time for Jarnkrok to close out his playing days closer to family and in familiar surroundings.
It's a fitting way to wrap up a long and respectable NHL run, and Brynas fans are already buzzing about what he can bring to their locker room.
