Captain Sidney Crosby is opening up about the injury to longtime Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin, who is now considered week to week.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are off to a much better start than most anyone would have expected, but now they're dealing with an injury to one of the most iconic players in team history.
Forward Evgeni Malkin is now considered week to week with an injury and has been put onto Injured Reserve, something that won't be easy to replace.
Longtime teammate Sidney Crosby said that there's just no replacing a player like Malkin, and that the rest of the team will have to step up their own games while he recovers.
It's not easy to replace 'Geno.' Pretty much can't. I think it's just by committee. He's been playing great hockey for us, so we're all going to have to step up and get some points here and play some good hockey until he's back.

So far this year, Malkin has 29 points (8G, 21A) in 26 games played.

Evgeni Malkin Confirmed He Doesn't Want To Play Anywhere Else But Pittsburgh

Malkin is playing in the final year of his current contract, and there has been widespread speculation that he could potentially seek a trade to chase one last Stanley Cup if the Penguins were not in a playoff position.
But Malkin apparently has no interest in going anywhere as he recently explained.
I don't see myself in another jersey - not in Florida, not in Colorado, anywhere. I've played my whole life in Pittsburgh. I love the fans, I love the city. I want to finish here.

Malkin was taken with the second overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has played his entire NHL career in a Penguins sweater, winning three Stanley Cups and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2009.
