Mike Sullivan expected to remain behind the bench in Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the playoffs in two straight years, but it appears they are remaining loyal to Mike Sullivan.
Despite their struggles in recent years, the Pittsburgh Penguins under Kyle Dubas are still looking for one last shot at glory, and it appears they've now made a major decision in their off-season. According to a recent report, the Penguins will retain Mike Sullivan as Head Coach, even if he and Dubas haven't always been on the same page in his stint with Pittsburgh.
Heard that HC Mike Sullivan is staying even though him and Dubas might not always be on the same page. Have to think the support from Crosby is factor. #LetsGoPens
There's definitely been a mixed reaction to Sullivan from within the Penguins fan base as they've struggled in recent years to attain the success they did early in his career.
With other coaches getting fired for the same level of success, his retention can only be attributed to his relationship with Sidney Crosby, and if that's the case, it's understandable, as you need to keep your franchise star happy. It's unclear what the future holds for the Penguins, but with their stars still producing, it makes sense to chase a Stanley Cup. After that however, who knows what this team will look like long-term.
