Erik Karlsson Makes His Thoughts Clear on Mike Sullivan in Bold New Interview
Mike Sullivan's Rangers are struggling, and after a hot start in Pittsburgh without him, Erik Karlsson has seemingly thrown a major shot at the veteran coach.
This off-season, the Pittsburgh Penguins made the long awaited move to part ways with Head Coach Mike Sullivan after the team had missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season under his leadership.
Surprisingly however, the New York Rangers are struggling mightily under Sullivan, while the Penguins are thriving under Dan Muse in a twist that nobody saw coming heading into the 2025/26 season.
Erik Karlsson Takes Major Shot At Mike Sullivan
Not only have the Rangers struggled overall, but they've been one of the NHL's worst ever teams at home to start a season, going 0-6-1 through their first seven games at Madison Square Garden, including being shut out in five of those games.
Now, to rub salt in the wounds, veteran defenseman Erik Karlsson, who had two of his worst seasons in his career under Sullivan has quickly called him out just a few weeks into his first season without Sullivan in Pittsburgh.
We have good individual players. And now we're finally starting to feel good as a team. The roles are starting to slot in. You know what's expected of you. You do the things you're good at, and not the things that someone tells you to do that you're not good at.
Clearly, that's a major change in philosophy under Muse, who has this team humming with a 9-4-3 record through their first 16 games, and with the veterans clearly happy with the way things are going, there's optimism that they can be a true force in the Metropolitan Division this year.
