Sidney Crosby Calls Out Referee Garrett Rank After Several Missed Calls
The Penguins lost a dramatic matchup on Saturday against New Jersey, and in surprising fashion, Sidney Crosby called out the game's official.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are off to a red-hot start this season, and while they came up short on Saturday, they still managed to pick up a point against the division rival New Jersey Devils, taking them to 9-4-3 through 16 games in 2025/26.
That's a far cry from where many expected them to be, and to see them compete against some of the top teams in the Eastern Conference as of late shows that they are ready to compete for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Sidney Crosby Goes After The Official For Some Missed Calls
After the 2-1 shootout defeat, a fired up Sidney Crosby was clearly frustrated, and in an unexpected twist, he used his time following the game with the media to call out NHL official Garrett Rank.
It would have been nice to draw a few more penalties. And I thought we were working to do that. You know, only one and carrying the play like that, typically you'll get rewarded a little bit more.
While no missed calls from Rank or his team were outrageous, it's clear that the Penguins should have gotten the rub a little more from the officials, and after the game, the veteran captain of the Penguins let them know about it.
Thankfully for Crosby, he did it in a fairly respectful way, and as a result it likely won't result in any discipline from the NHL, but if the Penguins can play like this with the officials missing some calls, it's safe to say that this could end up as a very successful campaign.
