Rick Tocchet's future plays a key role in the Head Coach market around the NHL, and now, it appears the Flyers are closing in on landing the biggest name possible.
However, a recent report from TSN's Darren Dreger revealed that it was the Kraken, Bruins and Flyers that had emerged as the three potential landing spots for the veteran coach, with all reportedly having a good shot at landing him.
On Wednesday however, it was revealed by Frank Seravalli that it's
the Philadelphia Flyers who are set to name Tocchet their newest Head Coach, and while nothing is yet confirmed, everything seems to be pointing towards that as the likely outcome.
This comes after the team parted ways with John Tortorella following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw plenty of drama behind the scenes, and with a solid young core led by
Matvei Michkov, they believe that Tocchet is the coach to see them take the next step.
Only time will tell if that is true, but given the interest in Tocchet around the league, it shows just how highly thought of he is, and with the Flyers looking to get back into Stanley Cup Playoffs contention, this may be the biggest move towards their rebuild coming to an end.
There's still plenty more moves to come, with the team picking at No. 6 in the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft while also looking to land a big name in free agency, and if those two things can be a success, with the team they're building already, optimism is growing in Philly.
