Philadelphia signs former first round pick Nolan Foote to a one year, two way deal worth $850,000 as the club continues rebuilding its AHL pipeline.
The Philadelphia Flyers made it official on Friday, announcing they've signed forward Nolan Foote to a one year, two way contract.
The deal carries an $850,000 cap hit at the NHL level, with a $300,000 salary if he starts the season in the minors, which looks like the most probable outcome given his track record so far.
Foote spent last season bouncing between the Florida Panthers and their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.
He appeared in just 12 NHL games, picking up a single goal, but found more consistent success down in the minors, posting 14 goals and 32 points across 54 games.
That kind of scoring touch is exactly what Philadelphia's development system could use right now.
Why this move makes sense for Philadelphia
A first round pick back in 2019, taken 27th overall by Tampa Bay before landing in New Jersey, Foote has never quite locked down a full time NHL role.
Across six pro seasons split between the Devils and Panthers, he's totaled just 10 points in 42 career games.
Still, at 25, there's runway left, and the Flyers clearly see value in adding a proven AHL scorer to a Lehigh Valley roster that's been retooled heavily this summer.
What comes next for Foote
Expect Foote to open camp fighting for a bottom six spot, but realistically settling in with the Phantoms to start the year.
If Philadelphia deals with injuries up front, as most teams do, he becomes a natural call up option given his size and physical style along the wall.
