Per a report from NHL analyst Chris Johnston, the penalty against the Ottawa Senators for the invalidated Evgenii Dadonov has been modified, and they'll pick 32nd in the upcoming 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

The Ottawa Senators were punished by the NHL in connection for their trade of Evgenii Dadonov in 2021 to the Vegas Golden Knights without properly informing Vegas of all of the teams on his no-trade clause; they were to forfeit a first round selection.
But now, that punishment is being changed by the NHL. Per a report from NHL analyst Chris Johnston, the penalty against the Ottawa Senators for the invalidated Evgenii Dadonov has been modified.
The NHL has modified the penalty against the Ottawa Senators for the invalidated Evgenii Dadonov trade: The Sens will now pick 32nd in the upcoming draft, regardless of where they finish, rather than forfeiting their 2026 first-round pick entirely. - Chris Johnston
The NHL itself has released information regarding the change, explaining why the punishment was modified and how Ottawa will now have the 32nd overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
The Senators' penalty will now involve the forfeiture of their first round pick in 2026 in favor of the right instead to pick 32nd overall in the 2026 NHL Draft (the last pick in the first round). The Club will not be permitted to trade or transfer its right to the 32nd overall selection in the 2026 Draft. In addition, the Club will pay a fine of $1 Million (CDN). - NHL

The Senators, who sent Dadonov to the Golden Knights, reportedly never informed them that the Anaheim Ducks were on his no-trade list.
In 2022, the Golden Knights has a deal to send Dadonov to the Ducks and a second-round pick in exchange for John Moore and the contract of Ryan Kesler. But the deal was later voided after discovering the Ducks were on his no-trade list.
