The future of Claude Giroux, who is a pending UFA, with the Ottawa Senators appears to be in doubt per the latest reports after spending the last 3 years with the team.

The Ottawa Senators and Claude Giroux may be heading for a split despite his having spent the last 3 years with the team he grew up rooting for as a native of nearby Hearst, Ontario.
Giroux and the Senators are reportedly far apart in contract negotiations, via Levi Pike of Last Word On Sports.
It seems the two sides remain far apart. Moreover, it doesn't appear to be the dollar amount. You can't think it would be much more than $1M or so, per year, either way. It's possible the disconnect is on term. It would make sense Giroux would consider a contract to retire on, more like in the three-year variety. In contrast, the Sens would want a one-year deal, just to figure things out next summer. You know, based on their needs at that time.

Giroux is coming off a 3-year contract he signed with the team in 2022 after having spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers followed by a brief stint with the Florida Panthers.
The Senators have a strong young core of forwards that include Tim Stutzle, Brady Tkachuk, Dylan Cozens, Jake Sanderson, and Thomas Chabot.
Last year with the Senators, Giroux had 50 points (15G, 35A), by no means a weak output for a 37 year old veteran, but also a 14 point drop from 2023-24.
If Giroux wants to continue his playing days with the Senators, he'll have to accept a lower AAV (average annual value) of $6.5 million.
