I think Mason has a unique combination of size, skill and strength. He works well down in the corners and around the net and that's an element we want to continue to add to our group here.
He's going to make a good addition to our group, for sure.
Marchment originally joined the Toronto Maple Leafs as an undrafted free agent, joining their AHL affiliate before making the jump to the Leafs in 2019. He would later be traded to the Florida Panthers for for Denis Malgin in February 2020.
Marchment had 47 points (22G, 25A) in 62 games this year, and has one year left on his current contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $4.5 million.
The trade opens up more salary cap space for the Stars to work with this summer. Nill has already re-signed veteran Matt Duchene to a 4-year contract, and he'll also be conducting the search for the next head coach of the franchise after he dismissed Peter DeBoer shortly after their loss to the Oilers in the WCF.
