Brady Tkachuk's message just raised the stakes for Steve Staios and the Senators

Brady Tkachuk just told Ottawa he is still in, and now the front office has nowhere to hide.
This was not a soft public relations line after a bad exit.
It sounded like a captain drawing a line after Ottawa's 44-27-11 season ended in a first-round sweep by Carolina. Tkachuk also owned his own miss, after a 22-37-59 regular season in 60 games and no points in the series.
His message changed the summer conversation.
The question is no longer whether Brady wants Ottawa. The question is whether Ottawa can build a roster that makes Brady's patience look smart.
You can hear the edge in his voice when the clip turns to frustration, not doubt.
"I have been fully committed to this team, to this city, and it's becoming a distraction, frustrating to deal with."

Stars do not usually go out of their way to say they are fully committed when they are already halfway out the door. Tkachuk chose to confront the noise head on.
Brady Tkachuk puts Ottawa Senators on notice
Fans are right to read this as a challenge, not a comfort blanket.
Tkachuk is under contract through 2027-28, and he cannot even sign an extension until July 2027. That gives Steve Staios time, but not cover.
Ottawa took a step by reaching the playoffs again.
Still, a captain in his prime does not want another year spent proving the group is close. He wants more finish in the top six, more bite on the blue line, and a roster that can survive playoff checking.
If Staios treats it like routine cleanup, the noise will get louder by Christmas. If he treats it like a mandate, Ottawa has a real shot to turn belief into something heavier next spring.
Tkachuk did his part on Wednesday. Now the franchise has to match his words with a better team.
