Matt Rempe was the rumoured target of an offer sheet this summer, but now, the New York Rangers have officially handed him a two-year extension.

The New York Rangers had a highly disappointing campaign, and as a result they've been very busy early in the off-season, adding a new Head Coach in Mike Sullivan before trading veteran forward Chris Kreider.
Now, just one day after the Stanley Cup Finals and the 2024/25 season wrapped up, the team have made another move, inking a young talent to a two-year extension amid rumours of a potential offer sheet this summer.
Officially announced on social media, the Rangers have extended young forward Matt Rempe on a two-year deal, carrying a salary cap hit of $975,000 per season, which is a great deal for the team as they continue to watch Rempe develop at the NHL level.
According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, Rempe has been with trainers all off-season thus far trying to work on his skill, as he already has the physicality and the intimidation factor to be a very productive fourth liner in the NHL.
If he can work on the clear skill that he's got as a hockey player already, Rempe could become a genuine threat down the bottom of the Rangers lineup, and at under $1 million per season, that's an absolute bargain.
There's still questions over his ability to be an every day player in the NHL given his lack of discipline thus far in his career, but with 59 games now under his belt over the past two years, it's time for him to step up and solidify himself as a full-time NHLer for the Rangers, who have shown great faith in him with this deal.
