Today the New York Rangers made the shocking decision to scratch Kaapo Kakko leading to a lot of trade speculation surrounding him.
The New York Rangers have once again caused controversy after being in the news earlier this month for trading captain Jacob Trouba.
Just moments before the Rangers game this evening, the team surprised everyone by announcing that forwards Artemi Panarin and Kaapo Kakko would be out of the lineup.
While Panarin was held out for injury reasons Kaapo Kakko was kept out of the lineup due to a coach's decision which has once again sparked controversy over his future with the Rangers.
With Kakko now being inexplicably scratched by the New York Rangers there has now been a lot of speculation about his future in New York with different sources believing a trade could be imminent.
Insider David Pagnotta gives his perspective on Kaapo Kakko trade saga
In a new article from insider David Pagnotta, he addressed the situation in New York with Kakko being scratched and once again in the doghouse with the Rangers.
According to Pagnotta Kakko is one of the players whose name circulated in trade rumors back when initial reports mentioned Trouba being traded.
Kakko's name started to recirculate around the trade waters after the Rangers had made it known to the rest of the NHL that they would consider shaking up their roster, with Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider's names being the most polarizing. After having a promising season in 2022-23 Kakko has regressed the last two seasons.
This season has been one of ups and downs for Kakko as he has 14 points in 29 games and has struggled to find any consistency or chemistry with the other key players from the Rangers.
