Controversial GM Chris Drury was just handed a multi-year extension, and fans are absolutely fuming, as many of them were hoping he would have been let go.
The Athletic published a fan survey to get a pulse, and more than 1,500 answered. The vote shows a major problem. Approval for Chris Drury took a hit, as a grade of C was used most often.
Only 7% of voters gave Chris Drury an A grade
The Rangers traded before and at the deadline, sending Lindgren, Vesey, and Riley Smith out, but bringing in
J.T. Miller, Will Borgen,
Carson Soucy, and
Urho Vaakanainen, all of whom will play important roles next season.
Even in the midst of the chaos, owner James Dolan re-signed Drury. That move was not popular: over 70% of the fans graded Dolan a one or two out of five for confidence in ownership.
Less than a month ago, 80% of voters would have graded ownership an even higher grade. If easy to say who most bore responsibility for the lost season, as over half of the respondents placed direct responsibility at the feet of management.
"The entire Ranger organization got overconfident after 2023-24 success," Richard B. commented. "Drury then made bad personnel decisions.
Lavy's and his coaches' strategies became highly predictable, and the players got comfy instead of hungry for the Stanley Cup.
Plenty of blame to go around. The question is whether Drury can change the culture and increase the hunger. I'm not convinced he can."
The fans' message is clear and loud: after a disastrous season, trust in the Rangers' board of administration has reached an all-time low, and only rage is growing with Drury's recent extension.
