Capitals' Logan Thompson Seriously Hurt After Collision With Teammate Dylan Strome During Game 3 in Montreal
Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson has left the game against the Montreal Canadiens after getting accidentally run into by teammate Dylan Strome.
What began as a spectacular start to
to tonight's Game 3 for Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson has turned into ruin, and is likely over after he suffered what appeared to be a game-ending injury.
Thompson was hurt after accidentally being run into by teammate Dylan Strome immediately after Montreal's Juraj Slavkovsky slipped the puck past him for a 5-3 Canadiens lead in the 3rd period.
Strome inadvertently cross-checked Thompson up high as he was attempting to stop from running into him. He remained down on the ice for several moments before being tended to by a team trainer, and he required the assistance of his teammates to help get him off the ice.
Thompson appeared unable to put any weight on his leg, and was replaced in the crease by teammate
Charlie Lindgren.
Just minutes before, it was Dylan Strome who assisted on Alex Ovechkin's goal that had tied the game at 3-3.
Ironically, both starting goaltenders have now been hurt and departed the game; Montreal's
Samuel Montembeault was injured during the 2nd period and was replaced by backup Jakub Dobeš.
Coming into the game, Thompson had won both games in Washington for a 2-0 Capitals lead; before his injury, he had made 30 saves.
His counterpart Montembeault had made 11 saves before his own departure.
If Montreal holds their lead and wins, they will still trail the series 2-1 but will have guaranteed a Game 5 back in Washington next week.
