Metro division head coach may be on the hot seat as team continues to struggle
The New Jersey Devils have placed plenty of faith in Sheldon Keefe as their Head Coach, but with the teams struggles, he may be firmly on the hot seat.
Coming into the 2025/26 NHL season, the New Jersey Devils had plenty of expectations, and following a red-hot start, the team has struggled as of late, falling to 22-18-2 and sixth place in the Metropolitan Division standings.
With a load of talent on this roster though, they should be faring much better, but after dropping five of their last seven games, the hot seat is only getting hotter for plenty in New Jersey.
Is Sheldon Keefe's job on the line?
That has led the conversation to Sheldon Keefe, who took over the team last year following his departure from the Toronto Maple Leafs, and for the most part, he's done a solid job given the injuries that this team has sustained.
However, in 2025/26, they've had limited players out, and still they have struggled to string success together consistency, with Pasha Eshghi now taking a look at Keefe on the latest episode of Devils Rink Report, with the reporter not sparing Keefe of the blame.
Yeah, I don't think he should be spared of blame. I don't think he is the number one problem. I think even if they were to fire him, they would still have a lot they've got to clean up. So put it this way, they have a lot of issues.
On paper, Keefe has been a solid fit for this team, but given the likes of Hughes, Hischier and Bratt among others leading the way, they should be a much more consistent team than they currently are.
Ultimately, it's unlikely that Keefe is going to be fired at any point during the 2025/26 campaign, but if the team fail to go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with this squad, it could mean the end of a short tenure for him in New Jersey.
