Jack Hughes took a high stick and appeared to spit out a tooth, then returned in a full face shield to help the Devils beat the Stars 5-1.
Jack Hughes has been through this before, and somehow it keeps finding him.
The Devils center took a high stick to the face midway through the first period Tuesday night in Dallas and had to leave the game.
He appeared to spit out a tooth on his way off the ice before a referee returned it to him.
It happened on a big night for New Jersey.
Connor Hellebuyck was making his Devils debut just four days after the team landed him from the Winnipeg Jets in a blockbuster trade, and the Devils were opening a three-game road trip.
Hughes wasn't about to let a missing tooth ruin it.
Hughes comes back with a full face shield
He didn't stay away long. Hughes returned later wearing a full face shield and finished the night with a goal and an assist.
His goal at 13:15 of the third period made it 5-1 and put the game away.
Luke Hughes also had a goal and an assist, so it was a pretty good night for the family business.
Nico Hischier scored twice, and Hellebuyck stopped 16 shots, with Justin Hryckowian the only Stars player to beat him.
It was the fourth straight win for New Jersey and it snapped a five-game winning streak for Dallas.
Another trip to the dentist
Fans will remember what happened to Jack back in February.
He lost teeth after a high stick from Sam Bennett in the Olympic gold medal game, then scored the overtime winner for Team USA.
He got his teeth fixed in March.
Devils fans will be hoping the damage is minor, because the Devils head to Colorado next.
