$72 Million Devils Defenseman Likely on the Trade Market After Luke Hughes Signing

Per a report from NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, the New Jersey Devils could be considering a trade of defenseman Dougie Hamilton after the new contract extension of Luke Hughes.
The New Jersey Devils put to rest any speculation of a trade of defenseman Luke Hughes after they re-signed him to a 7 year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $9 million.
Does this mean that the Devils could be thinking of shedding some salary to better help accommodate Hughes' new contract?
Per a new report from longtime NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, defenseman Dougie Hamilton could be a salary cap casualty of Hughes' new contract and that he could draw interest from other NHL teams if the Devils decide to make him available for a trade.

Hamilton still has 3 years left, including this season, on his contract with a $9 million AAV.
So far this year, Hamilton has only a single goal in his first 7 games.
Dougie Hamilton is Playing in His 5th Year With the Devils
Hamilton was taken with the 9th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins only weeks after they won the Stanley Cup.
He played the 1st several years of his NHL career with the Bruins before he was traded to the Calgary Flames with Michael Ferland and prospect Adam Fox for Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin.
Hamilton played in 3 years for the Hurricanes before joining the Devils with a 7 year contract in 2021.
