Predators on the verge of making the same mistake that ruined the Leafs for a generation

Roman Josi and head coach Andrew Brunette are watching the Predators management search turn into a nightmare.
Elliotte Friedman dropped a massive update on Wednesday regarding the vacant front office roles. He reported that Nashville is actively interviewing Brendan Shanahan, Marc Bergevin, and Peter Chiarelli.
This is a terrifying list for the Predators fan base. You do not rebuild a struggling franchise by handing the keys to executives who spent the last decade building heavy, underachieving rosters.
Look directly at the Toronto Maple Leafs situation. An entire generation of hockey fans watched Shanahan preach endless patience while his expensive core continuously folded under pressure.
His highly paid stars produced zero meaningful playoff runs. Now Nashville ownership apparently wants to bring that exact same country-club energy to Smashville. Unacceptable.
Bergevin is no better. He rode an elite goaltender to one miracle run, but ultimately left his old club in absolute salary cap misery with awful long-term deals.
A Blueprint for Failure: Headed to the Nashville Predators?
The Predators are already suffocating under massive veteran contracts that are aging terribly. Barry Trotz tried to buy a Stanley Cup contender in free agency last summer, and it backfired.
With Steven Stamkos sitting on an ugly -22 rating, the offensive output is not matching the massive paycheck. He looks lost in the offensive zone.
Jonathan Marchessault went minus-18 over his first 49 games in a Nashville sweater. The on-ice product is already a glaring issue that requires a massive overhaul.
Bringing in Chiarelli or Shanahan to untangle this salary cap mess is flat-out ridiculous. These guys have a history of handing out bad money and destroying a team's flexibility.
Josi is still carrying the workload on the blue line, logging over 24 minutes night after night. But the captain deserves better than a front office recycling bin.
The defensive structure collapsed entirely during massive stretches this season. Defensive coverage has been exposed, and the transition game is practically non-existent right now.
Nashville needs a visionary who understands modern hockey. They need efficient roster building and crisp passing from the back end.
If they hire from this tired old-boys club, they will repeat the exact same mistakes that ruined the Leafs. Retreads will only guarantee another decade of irrelevance.
