The Nashville Predators 2024/25 season has been a disaster, but before it ends, they've placed a defenseman on waivers, and not for the first time this year.
Despite coming into this season with plenty of hype and sky high expectations, the Nashville Predators have been a major letdown in 2024/25, and with their schedule coming to an end, they've made a surprise move.
Not for the first time this year, the Nashville Predators officially placed 25-year old defenseman
Marc Del Gaizo on waivers, with the expectation that he'll clear and join the Milwaukee Admirals for the Calder Cup Playoff race.
The former fourth-round pick made his NHL debut with Nashville last season, and since that point he's played in 54 games for the team, posting 2 goals and 12 points alongside a -2 differential.
In 90 games played at the AHL level during that same span, Del Gaizo has put up 16 goals and 46 points, and while the team still believe in his future as an NHLer, they're taking a risk here in getting him back to the AHL before the end of the year.
With a blue line that's got plenty of talent but not many veterans leading the way, Del Gaizo could be a full-time NHLer beginning in 2025/26 unless we see some huge changes, or perhaps we could see a surprise team swoop in and land him on waivers.
For now though, the expectation is that he'll pass through waivers and get back to the AHL level for the remainder of this season, and beyond that, the team are hoping he can continue to develop and become a solid bottom-four pairing defenseman for many years to come.
