Back in 2021, Logan Mailloux was in hot water for a crime he had committed and asked NHL teams to not select him in the draft as he needed to work on becoming a better person.
Despite this, the Montreal Canadiens felt it was worth selecting Mailloux with a first-round pick which shook the hockey community. Since then, he has gone on to debut in the NHL and earned an AHL all-star nod.
Recently scout Scott Wheeler was answering a Q&A on Montreal Canadiens prospects and shared that Mailloux being included in any trade would be quite complicated as many want nothing to do with him. When asked who has the most trade value, Mailloux, Jayden Struble, Jordan Harris, or Justin Barron, Wheeler responded with this.
Canadiens GM Kent Hughes will be looking to make some big moves this offseason and may be forced to give up a package he would not want to part ways with because teams are so adamantly against Mailloux.
At the end of the day, this is a predicament the Canadiens put themselves into when selecting him in the first round and it should be remembered that it is a privilege to play in the NHL, not a right.
