Ivan Demidov Joins Rare Canadiens Company With Historic Night Against Canucks
Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Ivan Demidov has joined some historic company in the illustrious history of the franchise on Saturday against the Canucks.
The Montreal Canadiens are expecting great things out of
rookie forward Ivan Demidov, and he's been delivering so far in his young NHL career.
And during the Canadiens' 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Saturday, Demidov joined some rare company in the history of the franchise.
He became the 1st Habs rookie since Eric Dejardins to record a 3-point night before he turned 20 years old as part of Montreal's win. It's the 1st time that it's happened in the last 36 years.
FunFact: Habs' Ivan Demidov became the 1st Canadiens rookie in the past 36 years to record a 3 point game before age 20 -- the last player to do so was Eric Desjardins on March 18, 1989!
So far this year, Demidov has 9 points (2G, 7A) and will likely be in the running to be named the Calder Trophy winner as the NHL's best rookie.
Ivan Demidov Joined the Canadiens Last Year
Demidov was taken by the Canadiens with the 5th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, but he would play another year with SKA Saint Petersburg in the KHL in his native Russia.
He then made his 1st appearance in the NHL last year with the Canadiens and made an immediate impact by scoring in his opening game.
If he can continue making the kind of impact that he has so far in his young career for the Habs, he has a bright future ahead of him.
