Canadiens barred from trading for star forward due to bad blood with the Canes
The Montreal Canadiens reportedly have an interest in trading for Martin Necas from the Carolina Hurricanes and have zero chance of landing him due to the two teams' bad blood from the Jesperi Kotkaiemi offer sheet.
Recently, Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star reported that the Montreal Canadiens have "zero chance" of trading for Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas due to the two teams' bad blood from the Sebastian Aho and Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet saga.
"As much as the Habs love [Martin Necas], there seems to be zero chance of a trade with Montreal considering the bad blood over the Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet in 2021." - Nick Kypreos
The Canadiens have been among the top contenders to potentially trade for Necas but it appears that the feud dates back nearly five years to when the Canadiens under the leadership of Marc Bergevin offer sheeted Sebastian Aho.
Since then, the Canadiens and Hurricanes both have new general managers, Kent Hughes for Montreal and Eric Tulsky for Carolina, but the ownership groups are certainly not over it.
We will now wait and see if the Hurricanes can make a move involving Necas or if they will keep him under contract moving forward electing not to trade him.
