Michael McCarron was heated on the bench before head coach John Hynes even got a word in. The Minnesota Wild's #47 did not hold back.
Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson delivered a nasty butt-end directly to the neck of McCaaron.
Josh Manson originally received a 5-minute major on the ice. Officials reviewed the footage and downgraded the call to a 4-minute double-minor.
That controversial decision set off fireworks during the 1st intermission broadcast. PK Subban asked the frustrated winger for an immediate reaction.
"He's a dirty player. He's always been."
With exactly 4 minutes of penalty time on the board, the Wild went to work on the power play.
McCarron wore a clear look of disgust when discussing the 34-year-old Avalanche defenseman. He did not mince his words at all.
"Surprised he got away with only a 4-minutes. I'm happy he's still in the game."
Western Conference Finals bid at play, everything on the line
With 1 ticket to the Western Conference Finals up for grabs in this 2nd round series, the intensity is reaching a boiling point.
Manson has racked up over 100 penalty minutes in multiple seasons. He has a reputation for playing right on the edge of the rulebook.
Minnesota needs to focus on solid execution and crisp passing to make Colorado pay on the 5-on-4 advantage.
The Wild cannot afford to waste a 4-minute opportunity against a top-tier opponent.
Over his NHL career, McCarron knows that retaliation across these next 3 periods is best served by lighting the lamp.
