One Specific Eastern Team Reportedly Tried to Trade for Kirill Kaprizov

Per a new report, the Carolina Hurricanes checked in on the availability of Minnesota Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov before he was signed to a record new contract.
Any speculation of Kirill Kaprizov leaving the Minnesota Wild was ended when he signed the richest contract in NHL history.
After he reportedly rejected a contract that carried an AAV (average annual value) of $16 million, he ended up signing an 8 year contract with a $17 million AAV.
There were reports that the Wild had asked Kaprizov to submit a list of teams that he'd be willing to accept a trade to, but that proved unnecessary thanks to his new deal.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun, the Carolina Hurricanes were interested in acquiring Kaprizov.

The Hurricanes Have Wanted to Make A Big Move
Not only did the Hurricanes reportedly show interest in Kaprizov, but they also reportedly tried to acquire Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Trade Deadline last year.
They would have sent Mikko Rantanen, who they acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in a stunning trade, back to the Leafs in return.
Things could have been different for the Maple Leafs with Rantanen instead of Marner; Rantanen ended up with the Dallas Stars, and now Marner is with the Vegas Golden Knights.
