Ahead of their post-season series, the LA Kings and Edmonton Oilers did battle on Monday night, and during the game things got incredibly heated, with the biggest moment of the game being Darnell Nurse intentionally trying to injure young Kings star Quinton Byfield.
The veteran defenseman was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct, but the Kings were seething after the game, with veteran forward Phillip Danault calling out the Oilers for their actions.
They just have their 'B Squad' in trying to hurt us.
Given that this was one of a few plays like it during the game, it's hard to argue with Danault's assessment, as the Oilers went into this game without any of their biggest stars, and it's easy to see that injuring their opponents would hurt them ahead of next weeks Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It's unlikely that it was a game plan to go hurt the Kings players like Nurse did, but with nothing to lose, there was no reservations from the Oilers players about making dirty plays, and it turned into a disgusting showing from them.
Now, we'll have to wait until next week to see what type of team the Edmonton Oilers can put on the ice when it's a best-of-seven up against the Los Angeles Kings, but unless they bring a vastly different game plan to that matchup, it's safe to say that the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division will come into that series as a heavy favourite.
