Matthew Tkachuk laced up his skates and wore his Olympic gold medal while skating with kids at his first hockey celebration weekend.

Matthew Tkachuk turned his offseason into a full weekend celebration for the game that made him, and he did it with a gold medal hanging around his neck the entire time.
The Florida Panthers winger hosted the first ever Matthew Tkachuk Hockey Celebration at Baptist Health IcePlex, bringing together young players and families for a weekend built around his own childhood memories of the sport.
The event centered on the Matthew Tkachuk Cup, a tournament that featured boys competing at the AAA level and girls at the AA level.
Tkachuk explained the timing was no accident.
Growing up in St. Louis, he always looked forward to a tournament held around this same weekend at the start of September, and that memory shaped how he wanted his own event to feel decades later.

A medal made for sharing

Tkachuk did not just show up to watch.
He strapped on his skates and joined kids on the ice, still wearing the gold medal he earned with Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, where the Americans topped Canada for the title.
"It's all about getting kids out playing more & showing how much hockey has grown."

- Matthew Tkachuk
For the young players sharing the ice with him, it turned an already special weekend into something they will not forget anytime soon.

Growing the game one weekend at a time

Beyond the tournament itself, Tkachuk used the platform to talk about getting more kids on the ice and showing them how much the sport has grown in recent years.
With his Panthers profile and now an Olympic gold medal to his name, few players are better positioned to make that pitch to the next generation of hockey players coming up through the ranks.
