AJ Greer faces heavy scrutiny from George Parros after a dangerous hit on Connor Zary, leaving Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska demanding justice.

The optics are horrific. Zary was defenseless and several feet away from the boards when Greer delivered a forceful shove directly into his numbers.
It's the kind of play the NHL claims it wants to eliminate. Dangerous boarding incidents like this often result in long-term injuries that derail promising careers.
Zary has been a bright spot for Calgary this season. Losing a player with 18 goals and a solid +5 rating because of a reckless play is a massive blow.
Huska didn't mince words after the game. He expects the league to send a message that protects players from these "BS" hits.
The Department of Player Safety is now under the microscope. Fans are tired of the perceived inconsistency in how these punishments are handed out.

Will George Parros finally throw the book at AJ Greer?

Greer isn't exactly a Lady Byng candidate. He plays a heavy, physical game, but there is a clear line between grit and gross negligence.
Coming off a stretch where the Panthers have been physical, this specific incident stands out as unnecessary and dirty.
The league needs to decide if player safety is a priority or just a slogan. A fine simply won't cut it this time.
Looking at Greer's track record, he has walked the line before. This time, he crossed it by a mile at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Zary's status remains uncertain, which only adds pressure on the league to act swiftly. The Flames' playoff hopes shouldn't be compromised by a non-hockey play.
If this only results in a two-game ban, the outcry from the hockey world will be deafening. It's a defining moment for the league's discipline office.
The video doesn't lie. Greer had plenty of time to let up. Instead, he finished a check that had no business being made.
The NHL needs to protect its stars. Letting this slide would be an insult to every player who tries to play the game the right way.
