Florida Panthers may have to consider trading Aaron Ekblad this offseason
The Florida Panthers have two key pieces set to hit free agency this offseason, Brandon Montour and Sam Reinhart, and may need to trade Aaron Ekblad to keep them.
Currently, the Florida Panthers are gearing up to face off against the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup finals. Once this series is over, and the cup champion is declared, the offseason will begin with the Panthers needing to resign both Sam Reinhart and Brandon Montour.
Reinhart was 2nd in the NHL in goals with 57 and led the Panthers in points with 94. Montour on the other hand led the Panthers in time-on-ice and was one of their most productive defensemen. Montour did have a step back from his 73-point outburst in 2022-23 but was still quite effective.
Steve Simmons of The Toronto Sun has shared that the Panthers may need to consider trading Ekblad if they want to retain both Montour and Reinhart.
Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: If the Florida Panthers are wanting to re-sign pending UFAs Brandon Montour and Sam Reinhart, they might have to consider the idea of trading defenseman Aaron Ekblad.
We will wait till the end of the Stanley Cup finals to see what the Panthers do with their three top players and which choices they will make.
