Ahead of the 2025/26 season, Oilers Nation is naming their top 100 Oilers of all-time, and surprisingly, current NHLer Jeff Petry has officially made the list.
When the list was first done, then 27-year old Jeff Petry came in at No. 68 on the list of greatest Oilers of all-time, and now, despite departing the team at the 2015 NHL trade deadline, he remains on that list, being put at No. 94 on the updated even after playing just 295 games for the team.
Why Edmonton Never Saw the Best of Jeff Petry
This comes despite the Oilers never seeing the best of Jeff Petry, as he departed the team to join the Montreal Canadiens, where he would go on to tally 248 points in 508 games, following a five-year career in Edmonton that saw him put up just 74 points from the blue line.
That is because the Canadiens simply gave him the bigger role and allowed him to flourish alongside players that fit his strengths more, and after being traded at 27-years of age, he simply found himself in the National Hockey League.
How Montreal Revived Petry's Career Before His Florida Move
Now, after departing the Canadiens two seasons ago, Petry has joined the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers, and after playing a key role in Montreal as a leader on a very young team, that's set him up for success with the veteran group in Florida.
Ultimately, Petry has been a fantastic player and a teammate in both Edmonton and Montreal, and when it's all said and done, he'll go down as one of this generations most respected players, and with the 37-year old joining the Panthers this year, he's got his best chance yet at winning a Stanley Cup.
