Tristan Jarry raises some eyebrows with comments on Oilers' unusual situation

There's a different vibe swirling around Edmonton this fall, and it isn't just about new head coach Mike Babcock trying to finally push this group over the top.

The Oilers are set to break from convention by carrying three legitimate goaltenders on their active roster, an approach that has veteran Tristan Jarry sounding a little unsettled about what's ahead.

Jarry, Frederik Andersen and Devon Levi are all expected to share crease duties this season, a structure that mirrors what Carolina ran with Brandon Bussi, Pyotr Kochetkov and, fittingly enough, Andersen himself last year.

That group ended up hoisting the Stanley Cup, so there's precedent for believing a three man rotation can actually work.

Still, Jarry made clear this week that adjusting to life without a defined starter role won't happen overnight.

He described the setup as something that will genuinely take time to get used to, even while acknowledging Carolina's blueprint proved it can pay off if everyone stays sharp.

The idea, at least in theory, is simple.

Whoever is playing the best hockey gets the net, regardless of name or contract size.

Jarry seemed to buy into that logic publicly, even if reading between the lines suggests he'd still rather be the guy the Oilers lean on every night.

Part of what makes this trio interesting is the age gap.

Jarry and Andersen bring years of playoff scars, while Levi, acquired this offseason from Buffalo after a rocky stretch with the Sabres, represents the upside play.

Jarry didn't hold back on his praise, calling Levi a genuinely good teammate who works hard and soaks up coaching, adding that he expects him to be a fixture in the league for years to come.

Whether Edmonton's gamble pays off the way Carolina's did remains to be seen, but this goaltending group will be one of the more scrutinized units in the league all season long.
