The Edmonton Oilers have struggled early in the 2025/26 season, and now Connor McDavid has a harsh assessment of his team to this point.

After making the Stanley Cup Finals in back-to-back seasons, the Edmonton Oilers made some massive changes ahead of the new season, and it's given them a new look lineup.
While the elite level talent is still there, this team has struggled to get on the same page early in the season, as they are sitting at 2-2-1 with some very tough losses to this point.

Connor McDavid Reveals the Oilers Early Struggles

On Saturday, the team lost to the New Jersey Devils 5-3, and in that matchup we saw plenty of sloppy play, with team captain Connor McDavid admitting that they've been out of sync early in the year.
Our whole team's just a little bit out of sync. Not a lot of flow to our game. Not a lot of yeah, just not connected enough even on the power play, but even five-on-five.

This isn't rare for the Oilers however, as they've started slow for the past number of years, but when things start clicking, this team is one of the best in the entire National Hockey League.
Despite these early inconsistencies, the underlying numbers for the Oilers look fairly good, but with the team dropping two straight games on the road, it's not a good look for the organization.
Ultimately, the Oilers added some new pieces and lost some key veterans while also dealing with the absence of Zach Hyman, so until all of those things are sorted, there's going to be some growing pains, but with McDavid leading the way, hopes are high for the remainder of the season.
