Vinzenz Rohrer was a third round pick in Montreal, but now he's revealed his true feelings on being cut by the team in training camp.
Back in the 2022 NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens used the No. 75 overall pick on Vinzenz Rohrer, a right winger out of Austria, but thus far, he's not made his way back to North America full-time following two years with the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League.
The 21-year old did have an opportunity this past off-season, as he joined the team for training camp before being quickly cut, as he heads back to Austria for his fourth season with Zurich SC.
Rohrer Says He's Not Upset About Leaving Montreal
Most people would be frustrated with that, as Rohrer was likely looking to make a push for the Canadiens roster, but when he was asked about it during a
recent interview, he reveals he's not too upset to return to Austria.
Of course, I would have liked to stay longer in Montreal and gain more experience, but I'm not particularly sad to be back in Zurich.
There were many positives from the interview as well, and while Rohrer didn't expect to be cut so quickly, he reveals some good discussions with Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton about his performance.
I didn't expect it to happen this weekend. When I was told I had a meeting in 20 minutes, it was clear to me.
They told me I had a good training camp and made a good impression. But they want to see me develop even further. There's no rush; I just turned 21.
Ultimately, Rohrer is still a name to keep a close eye on for the future, but for now, don't expect to see him in North America full time as he continues to improve and develop back in Austria.
