The Edmonton Oilers are putting forward David Tomasek, who is returning to Farjestad BK in the SHL, on waivers for the purposes of a contract buyout, and they'll save $1.2 million against the salary cap.
Forward David Tomasek, who signed a one-year contract with a $1.2 million AAV (average annual value) is reportedly having his deal terminated and is expected to return to Färjestad BK of the SHL, Sweden's top professional hockey league.
He'll be hitting waivers on Sunday at the end of the roster freeze for the holidays.
Oilers and Tomasek mutually agree to part ways. He's going back to SHL, but has to clear NHL waivers first.
Really good guy. Tough lineup to crack. - Jason Gregor

If, as Swedish reporters. say Tomasek is leaving Oilers to return to a Europe, this was brewing for at least a month. He couldn't play in top 6. It had to been on third line with his skill-set. He doesn't kill penalties to be 4th liner. Good person, good pro, just not fit. - Jim Matheson
So far this year in an Oilers sweater in 22 games, he had five points (3G, 2A).
David Tomasek Led The SHL In Scoring Last Year With Farjestad BK
Never drafted into the NHL, Tomasek made his professional debut with HC Pardubice during the 2015-16 Czech Extraliga season.
He led the SHL in scoring last season with 57 points (24G, 33A) in 47 games.
However, he failed to make much of an impact with the Oilers in what appears to be his lone NHL stint, and Edmonton will now be able to reallocate his cap space elsewhere.
