Oilers May Be Facing Contract Disaster With Goalie After Divisional Rival Hands Out Massive Deal

The Oilers could be in for a contract dilemma with goaltender Stuart Skinner after the divisional foe Anaheim Ducks gave a lengthy new contract to Lukas Dostal.
The Edmonton Oilers are still feeling the pain of having lost for the
2nd year in a row in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers.
Despite once again advancing to the SCF, the Oilers once again had to utilize both goaltenders, Stuart Skinner and
Calvin Pickard, during their postseason run.
Just like last year, both goaltenders had their highs and lows during the postseason, but faltered when it mattered most.
In the meantime, the Oilers' divisional foe Anaheim Ducks recently handed goaltender Lukas Dostal a new 5 year contract extension with an AAV (average annual value) of $6.25 million, which could potentially complicate matters for Edmonton GM Stan Bowman.
Longtime Oilers analyst Jim Matheson wondered what kind of numbers Skinner could ask for in his next contract, as he's about to enter the final year of his current deal - and he used Dostal's stats as a comparison.
If RFA Dostal,25, gets 5 years at $6.25mAAV in Anaheim with 121 regular season games with career .902 save% and no playoff games what does Skinner,26, get after this season? He has 189 league games, .905 career save% and 50 playoff games and 2 trips to Cup final?
Right now, Skinner has an AAV of $2.5 million, a number that Oilers fans likely would be angered by if it were to substantially rise, given their lack of success in the SCF.
While it's true that Dostal has yet to play a single game in the postseason, the argument can be made that the Oilers likely would have finished the job had he been in their net as opposed to Skinner.
