Oilers enter Kirill Marchenko trade mix alongside two other Canadian teams

According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, the Oilers have checked in on Marchenko, joining a growing list of suitors that already includes the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens.

The 26-year-old has made no secret of wanting a fresh start away from Columbus, and his contract situation only makes him more attractive on the trade market.

Marchenko doesn't carry any trade protection, so the Blue Jackets are free to move him wherever they find the best return.

He's coming off back to back strong seasons, following up a 74 point campaign in 2024-25 with 67 points in 76 games last year, all while playing on a team friendly $3.85 million cap hit.

He's also a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights, meaning whoever lands him gets more than a rental.

This isn't a half season fix. It's a long term piece.

Edmonton has been searching for a true top six scoring winger all offseason, and Marchenko's size, shooting touch and scoring track record line up nicely next to Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.

Stan Bowman has already re-signed Jason Dickinson and Connor Murphy this summer, so adding a proven goal scorer would round out a roster that's still chasing its first Cup with this core.

The Maple Leafs and Canadiens have both been floated as landing spots throughout the summer, and neither appears ready to back off.

Columbus general manager Don Waddell will ultimately decide who offers the best package, but with three big markets circling, expect this saga to pick up steam quickly as camp approaches.
