Oilers' Darnell Nurse directly calls out goalies after loss to Capitals
The Oilers have struggled in net this season, and after giving up seven goals to the Capitals, veteran Darnell Nurse has directly called out their goaltenders.
The Edmonton Oilers have fallen short of the Stanley Cup in the past few seasons, and for the most part, blame has been placed on the goaltending duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.
After an underwhelming start, there were calls for the team to move on from one, if not both of them at some point this season, with the Buffalo Sabres broadcasters openly mocking Skinner this past week.
The team may have hit rock bottom on Wednesday night when they fell 7-4 to the Washington Capitals, their second time this season already giving up seven or more goals.
Darnell Nurse directly blasts the Oilers goaltending
This time, it was Skinner giving up five goals on 19 shots as the Oilers fell to 9-9-4 on the season, and given their recent struggles, things may be reaching a boiling point.
To this point, no one on the team has thrown their goaltending situation under the bus, but after another very poor performance from Skinner, after the game, veteran Darnell Nurse was the first to do so.
Tough to win games when you're letting in 5.
With this result, Skinner has fallen to an .881 save percentage in 16 appearances this season, and with the Oilers having just four regulation wins, it's clear that something has to change, and quickly.
That change is likely to come in net, with rumours circulating that the team are looking to make a change, and now after being blown out by both Colorado and Washington in recent weeks combined with these comments, it's a matter of when, not if a shakeup comes.
