Evan Bouchard has 11 points through four games, and Edmonton fans are watching a defenceman rewrite the NHL record book in real time.
Evan Bouchard keeps doing things no defenceman has done before, and Oilers fans are running out of ways to describe it.
The Edmonton blueliner scored twice and added an assist in a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.
That pushed him to 11 points through the first four games of the season, and six of those are goals, which leads the entire league.
A start with almost no comparison
Only a handful of defencemen in NHL history have hit 10 or more points in four games or fewer.
Bobby Orr, Pat Stapleton, Harry Cameron and Morgan Rielly are the others, and Bouchard just joined that company.
He did it the hard way too.
Edmonton was down 2-0 after the first period, and Bouchard started the comeback 11 seconds into the second with a wrist shot through traffic.
Later in the frame he buried a one-timer from Leon Draisaitl to put the Oilers in front for good.
Then there is the number that makes this feel even bigger.
Bob Stauffer pointed out that Bouchard is the first defenceman ever to have 10 or more points and be a plus-10 through the first four games of a season.
The Oilers are rolling with him
The team is 3-0-1 and scoring 5.5 goals a game, tops in the NHL.
Connor McDavid sits at 12 points after four games, and Draisaitl piled up four assists against the Ducks.
Bouchard led every defenceman in the league with 95 points last season.
Nobody expected him to slow down, but this pace is on another level.
Edmonton heads to San Jose on Saturday afternoon, and all eyes will be on whether Bouchard can keep it going.
