Stefan Noesen and Chase Stillman are on the waiver wire, and both have Penguins ties. Here's what it means for the Devils and Red Wings.
Waiver season keeps rolling, and two of today's names come with some Pittsburgh history.
Everyone placed on the wire yesterday cleared, and Elliotte Friedman has the new group.
Stefan Noesen is one of them. The New Jersey Devils forward is 33, and he is in the final year of a three-year contract that carries a $2.75 million cap hit.
Injuries wrecked his 2025-26 season, and he was ruled out for the rest of it after needing another procedure on a lower-body problem.
Noesen has been here before
Penguins fans might remember him from 2019.
Noesen started that season in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, signed an NHL deal with Pittsburgh in December, and scored in his first game.
He finished with one goal in six games before the Penguins waived him and San Jose claimed him.
Now he's the one hoping nobody puts in a claim.
He has been a depth piece in New Jersey since returning in 2024, and his best year came in 2024-25, when he set career highs with 22 goals and 41 points.
Stillman's winding road
Chase Stillman is the other name.
The Detroit Red Wings signed the 23-year-old to a one-year, two-way deal in July after the Vancouver Canucks chose not to give him a qualifying offer.
He went 29th overall in 2021 and still hasn't played an NHL game.
His recent AHL stops tell the story.
He split 2024-25 between Utica and the Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, then spent last season with the Abbotsford Canucks, where he had nine points in 24 games.
Teams get a day to put in a claim.
If nobody bites, both players are free to head to the minors.
