Leon Draisaitl takes to social media to call out podcast doubting Oilers' leadership
The Oilers are under fire on social media after a slow start, and now Leon Draisaitl has clapped back at those calling out their leadership group.
The Edmonton Oilers have been to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, with the team and their fans entering the 2025/26 season with the exact same lofty expectations for this star studded group.
However, they've been off to a very slow start thus far, posting a record of 10-10-5 across 25 games, and with their goaltending issues, confidence is clearly dropping from the fanbase.

One thing that can't be doubted is the talent and the leadership that the Oilers veterans bring to them on a daily basis, but now, they've been called out on the Edmonton Sports Talk Hangout.
At this point, these guys that are the leaders of this team should have that ability to drag everyone into the fight with them, as opposed to just leading the charge and hoping everyone follows. And that element hasn't happened yet, and we're well into this thing.
I think this leadership group can still get it done; they just need support from good veterans. And I think that's something we've seen multiple times now... they need that support system from good veterans, which is kinda frustrating 'cause these are guys entering their 30s now and should, should know by now.

This clearly caught the attention of some Oilers players, including a key leader in Leon Draisaitl, who responded simply like this; 'Lol'.
That means that within the locker room, there's no doubts over their leadership and their ability to get it done when it matters most, but given their struggles in net and their inconsistency early in the season, it's easy to see why there are many doubters within this fanbase, as Draisaitl, Connor McDavid and co. aim to ease those doubts moving forward.
