Stuart Skinner struggled in net for Edmonton in Game 3, and now, Kris Knoblauch has addressed the huge decision the team need to make ahead of Game 4, with the team reportedly weighing up turning to Calvin Pickard once again.
After a dramatic win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Edmonton Oilers are now down 2-1 in the series after they were thoroughly beaten on Monday night by a score of 6-1 on the road against the Florida Panthers.
Unfortunately for the Oilers, the game saw Stuart Skinner struggle once again after playing well in recent times, and after he was pulled from the game, fans began to worry that his inconsistencies were once again becoming an issue for the team.
With several days until Game 4, Head Coach Kris Knoblauch has addressed the goaltending situation, and unsurprisingly, he's keeping a level head around it, noting that they will wait until closer to Game 4 on Thursday night before making an official decision, noting that the whole team struggled on Monday, and didn't want to place all the blame on Skinner.
While Calvin Pickard was solid earlier in the post-season for the Oilers after Skinner's initial struggles, Skinner has won the starting role in recent times, posting a save percentage above .900 in six of his last 10 outings, but after allowing 5 goals on just 23 shots on Monday, worries have emerged within the Oilers fanbase.
We have seen Knoblauch make tough decisions in net before, as he turned to Pickard to save Edmonton's season against Vancouver a year ago, and while that's certainly an option here, Skinner has been more good than he has bad as of late, and if they want to keep things going in a pivotal Game 4, don't be surprised to see Skinner in net once more.
