Elliotte Friedman Confirms the Edmonton Oilers Had Failed Trade Negotiations On Darnell Nurse

On his most recent '32 Thoughts' podcast, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Edmonton Oilers were considering a trade of defenseman Darnell Nurse.
The Edmonton Oilers have already made multiple changes to their roster following their 2nd straight loss in the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers, who once again denied them their dream of what would have been their 1st title since 1990.
Gone are the likes of Corey Perry, who signed with the divisional foe Los Angeles Kings in free agency, along with Viktor Arvidsson, who was traded to the Boston Bruins, and Evander Kane, traded to the Vancouver Canucks.
How close were the Oilers to trading away defenseman Darnell Nurse? Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman on a recent '32 Thoughts' podcast, it was a discussion amongst Edmonton management.

It would be difficult for the Oilers to trade Nurse, as he's under contract through 2030 with an AAV (average annual value) of $9.25 million.
The contract was given to him by now-former Oilers general manager Ken Holland, who now oversees the Kings.
Holland has already drawn criticism for giving a hefty contract to former Oilers defenseman Cody Ceci, who signed a 4-year deal with a $4.5 million AAV.
Nurse, who was taken with the 7th overall pick by the Oilers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, has 300 points (81G, 219A) in 716 career NHL games, all with Edmonton.
