The Edmonton Oilers are in a prime position to make a run at the Stanley Cup, and now they've made a major addition by signing Andy Slaggert.
Over the past few seasons, the Edmonton Oilers have undergone plenty of change in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup, with the team hoping that captain
Connor McDavid can lead them to their first Cup in over three decades.
That change has come on the ice and behind the scenes as well, with the introduction of Kris Knoblauch, Stan Bowman and Jeff Jackson all to key roles within this organization as they bid farewell to long-time GM Ken Holland.
Oilers Add Notre Dame Veteran
Now, they've made another very intriguing addition, as the team have brought on board Andy Slaggert, a 58-year old that has spent the past 32 seasons as a coach with the University of Notre Dame.
According to
the report, Slaggert is joining the Oilers as the Director of North American Recruiting to the Oilers hockey operations department, with the team bringing in the veteran after so much experience at the college level.
Obviously, this is going to be a major adjustment for Slaggert, but given that he's spent the past three decades with players under the age of 23, with experience recruiting them to the Notre Dame program, it's safe to say that this is a role tailor made for him.
We will see how this move from the Oilers pays off over time, but for right now, this is a calculated risk, and given Slaggert's experience, it's the perfect move for Edmonton as they look to build success for now and the future.
