McDavid signed a two-year extension with Edmonton last September that carries him through the 2027-28 season, meaning he's not a free agent this summer.
But that shorter term keeps the door open for 2028, and every warm word about Montreal gets amplified accordingly.
Nothing suggests McDavid is angling for a trade or free agency in Montreal specifically. He's repeated similar praise for the Bell Centre for years, well before any Habs speculation existed.
Still, in a city starving for a superstar center, even routine compliments get treated like smoke signals. Expect this story to resurface every time McDavid steps on Bell Centre ice.
