The Oilers captain has been effusive about the Bell Centre atmosphere for years, but his latest comments landed with extra weight given where his career sits.

It always seems like an exciting game when we're there. The energy of the building is there. It always feels intense. Those are the games I love to play honestly. It was special to play there for Canada (at the 4 Nations)

The Building That Gets Under His Skin, In A Good Way

McDavid has never shied away from praising the Bell Centre's reputation as one of hockey's toughest road buildings.
It's nice to have the fans cheer for me there, but it's also fun to play against (the Habs) and get the boos
McDavid said this, echoing sentiments he's shared before about Montreal crowds pushing him to elevate his game.

Why Habs Fans Are Reading Into It

McDavid didn't stop at praising the building.
It's such a special building to play in. It's such a great hockey town. The way (the fans) love their Canadiens is amazing.

For a fan base that has watched Kent Hughes build a genuine contender around Nick Suzuki and Ivan Demidov, comments like these are catnip.
McDavid signed a two-year extension with Edmonton last September that carries him through the 2027-28 season, meaning he's not a free agent this summer.
But that shorter term keeps the door open for 2028, and every warm word about Montreal gets amplified accordingly.
Nothing suggests McDavid is angling for a trade or free agency in Montreal specifically. He's repeated similar praise for the Bell Centre for years, well before any Habs speculation existed.
Still, in a city starving for a superstar center, even routine compliments get treated like smoke signals. Expect this story to resurface every time McDavid steps on Bell Centre ice.
