The Four Nations was intense, and for Oilers captain Connor McDavid, the expectation is that the Olympics will be on another level entirely.
Best on best hockey is what's best for the sport, and earlier in 2025, we saw one of the biggest successes for the NHL in recent years with the Four Nations Face Off, culminating in a dramatic overtime matchup between Team Canada and the USA.
That was one of the best hockey games in recent memory, and coming out of it, most players involved all said the same thing: it was the fastest hockey that they've likely ever played in their entire lives.
McDavid Says 4 Nations Was Toughest Hockey He's Ever Played
On top of that, Oilers captain Connor McDavid
has now stated it's the toughest hockey he's ever played as well, with all eyes now turning to the 2026 Olympic Games to see if the level of hockey can be taken to another level.
The hockey at the 4 Nations was the fastest, tightest-checking, most difficult hockey I've ever been a part of, so I can't imagine what it's going to be like at the Olympics.
Olympic Debut in Milano Cortina Could Be Even More Intense
This time around, we'll see more than just four of the worlds best teams, with more and more entering the fray, and given how important Olympic gold medals are, every team is going to bring their best every night.
Heading into the tournament, Team Canada and the USA are the overwhelming favourites, but with so much talent on display, we could be in for two weeks of hockey like we've never seen before.
Ultimately though, it's going to be hard to top the intensity and the pace that we saw at the Four Nations, but with every team being loaded with NHL level talent, it's going to be an event that hockey fans remember for a long, long time to come.
