Connor McDavid just made video game history, becoming the first player ever to earn a 99 overall rating in EA Sports NHL.
This kicks off a new 99 Club as NHL 27 approaches its September release.
McDavid breaks new ground as first NHL 99 overall ever
For as long as the NHL series has existed, no player had ever cracked the elusive 99 overall mark, until now.
Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers captain and the best player on the planet, has been unveiled as a 99 overall in EA Sports NHL 27, officially launching the franchise's first ever 99 Club.
EA made the announcement in dramatic fashion, welcoming McDavid as the club's inaugural member with a celebratory post that called it exactly what it is, a first of its kind moment for the game.
It is a fitting honor for a player who has spent his career redefining what is possible on the ice.
McDavid has led the NHL in scoring multiple times, captained Canada on the international stage, and consistently topped the ratings charts in every EA Sports NHL release since he entered the league.
Getting bumped from 97 all the way up to a perfect 99 is a massive jump, and it signals just how much respect the developers have for his game heading into this new title.
NHL 27 early access begins September 4
News of McDavid's rating broke alongside a separate post confirming the number itself, with fans getting their first real look at what the 99 Club actually looks like heading into launch.
EA is using the milestone to help build hype for NHL 27, which hits shelves with Deluxe Edition owners getting seven days of early access starting September 4.
The Deluxe Edition also comes loaded with bonus Hockey Ultimate Team content and World of Chel rewards for anyone looking to jump in early.
With McDavid setting the bar at the top of the ratings pyramid, hockey fans and gamers alike will be watching closely to see who else might join him in the 99 Club before the game fully launches.
