Connor McDavid and the Oilers have gone 1-2-0 to start their current home stand, and now the captain has called out the team for the lack of good performances.
The Edmonton Oilers have reached back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals in 2024 and 2025, and they've managed to achieve that success despite not being dominant for consistent stretches in the regular season.
2025/26 has been no different to this point, and while they sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division, the team haven't been at their best as of late, going 1-2-0 through three games of their current home stand.
Connor McDavid blasts the Oilers for recent performances
Their latest defeat came at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins as they fell 6-2, and as a result, captain Connor McDavid was asked about recent performances, and while he took some responsibility, he didn't hold back in his comments.
Well, it starts with me. I think the last two, probably not my best. I could've been better. When I'm better, usually the whole group responds, so that starts there. Even back to practice, I thought our puck play's been really bad. Not really connecting on passes. So when you're playing that way, it looks slow and clunky, and I thought we've looked that way for the last two games. - McDavid
Clearly, things aren't going right in Edmonton, and with a 25-19-8 record, it's safe to say that right now, this is a team looking forward to a break in the next few weeks with the arrival of the 2026 Olympics.
After that though, they'll have to hit the ground running, and if they want to make it back to the Stanley Cup Finals for a third straight year, that is the time that they'll need to start finding form.
