Two Stanley Cup contenders pull out of Dylan Larkin trade talks

Speaking on Oilers Now this week, Khan delivered a blunt assessment of where things stand for the Detroit Red Wings captain.

Florida and Vegas, two of Larkin's approved trade destinations, have shown only lukewarm interest at best. Khan's read is simple: those clubs do not need him.

The Panthers already added Brady Tkachuk this offseason, filling out their top six, while Vegas has other roster priorities after its run to the Stanley Cup Final. Neither team appears willing to pay Detroit's asking price for a rental-adjacent piece they can live without.

Minnesota is a different story entirely.

Khan's comments reinforce what Wild followers have suspected for months.

Minnesota lacks a true first-line center, and Larkin remains the cleanest fix on the trade board. Unlike Florida or Vegas, the Wild have real organizational need driving the pursuit, not just optionality.

That distinction matters in trade talks. A desperate buyer tends to move faster and bend more than a team simply kicking tires.

The obstacle is not desire. It is Detroit's price. The Red Wings want NHL-ready help back, ideally a top-six forward, and Minnesota's cupboard remains thin after a quiet offseason.

Detroit is also still searching for a permanent GM to replace Steve Yzerman, which has stalled real progress league-wide.

Larkin has full no-movement protection but remains willing to waive it for the right destination.

If Florida and Vegas keep fading, Minnesota's path only gets clearer, provided the Wild can find the assets to close the gap.
