Simon Edvinsson makes a decision involving the Detroit Red Wings

Simon Edvinsson has not budged, and the Detroit Red Wings are running out of ways to change his mind. The unsigned defenseman is still holding firm on his preference to be traded, according to the latest update from Elliotte Friedman.
Friedman said:
I'm under the impression he has still not changed his opinion at this point in time, his preference is still a trade, but...it is [the Red Wings'] preference to sign him; they have not given up hope.
That leaves both sides in a tense holding pattern. Edvinsson, 23, remains a restricted free agent with no contract, and he has been skating in Sweden with Frolunda while the situation plays out.
Term Is the Sticking Point
The gap reportedly comes down to length. Detroit would prefer a bridge deal, while Edvinsson is said to be seeking a long-term contract of up to seven years.
Adding to the confusion, the two sides are not currently talking, even though the club keeps saying he is its top priority. Interim GM Shawn Horcoff has pushed the same message publicly, but words have not turned into a signature.
The calendar adds real pressure. If nothing is finalized by December 1, Edvinsson cannot play in the NHL this season.
That deadline gives rival clubs a reason to stay patient, and Friedman has noted the Philadelphia Flyers are among the teams circling.
What Detroit Does Next
Detroit still holds his rights, so nobody can force its hand. Still, the Red Wings are already juggling Dylan Larkin's trade request, and losing the sixth overall pick from 2021 would deepen a rough start to the season.
Edvinsson is arguably the second most important defenseman on the roster behind Moritz Seider, and replacing that kind of size and skill is not simple.
Detroit now faces a clear choice: meet him closer on term, or chase the best possible return before the clock runs out. With Edvinsson's stance unchanged, the pressure sits squarely on Horcoff.
