Elliotte Friedman says the Red Wings are laying groundwork for a trade or two, but it's unclear if Dylan Larkin or Simon Edvinsson goes first.

The Detroit Red Wings are preparing for a big shakeup, and it may not be far off.
Elliotte Friedman said on NHL Now that Detroit is starting to prepare the ground for one deal, maybe two, but he can't say whether Dylan Larkin or Simon Edvinsson will be moved first.
"I do believe the Red Wings are beginning to lay the groundwork for a trade or two, but at this point in time I don't know if it's going to be Dylan Larkin first or Simon Edvinsson first."

Two big problems for Shawn Horcoff

Larkin asked out back in June, while Steve Yzerman was still running the team.
Yzerman was removed as general manager in mid-July, which left interim GM Shawn Horcoff with the mess.
Larkin, the team's former captain, is 30 and has reportedly widened his approved list of destinations to 10 teams this week.
Edvinsson's situation is different, but just as messy.
The 23-year-old defenseman is still an unsigned restricted free agent after training with Frolunda in Sweden.
He has not filed a formal trade request, though he reportedly prefers to be moved.
If he doesn't sign by Dec. 1, he can't play in the NHL this season.

What Detroit wants in return

The early offers have not impressed Detroit, according to Friedman.
The Red Wings are now asking around about young centers and even top prospects who haven't reached the NHL yet.
Horcoff still says re-signing Edvinsson is the goal, but Friedman thinks the team is realizing that may be a hard sell.
Interest should not be a problem.
According to Pierre LeBrun, as many as 10 teams have shown interest in Edvinsson, including San Jose and Boston.
Nothing has come together yet.
With the Dec. 1 clock ticking, Detroit's next move could come quickly.
Whoever goes first, the Red Wings roster will look very different by the time this is done.
